About Us:

Highland Adventure Trekking & Mountaineering, is based at Gangtok the capital town of Sikkim State of India. It is managed by Loden Sherpa a trained mountaineer from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and with over 15 years of experience in the field of mountain tourism. It is registered with the Government of Sikkim and recognized by Sikkim Tourism.

Eastern Himalaya: Sikkim/Darjeeling/Bhutan Adventure Holidays

 

Nepalese call it Sukhim (The New House) known in Tibetan folk lore as Beyul (A hidden land of ultimate serenity) but for its original inhabitants the Lepchas it is Nye-mae-el lang (Abode of the Gods) Sikkim retains the heavenly enchantment of a Himalayan kingdom. Until mid 1970 Sikkim was a kingdom ruled by the Chogyal (Religious king). The tiny enclave is now a state of India sandwiched between Nepal, Bhutan & Tibet.

 

Rising from the North Indian plains, Sikkim's vertical landscape nurtures thick forest lush with 36 varieties of flowering rhododendrons, 600 species of orchids, abundant medicinal plants and alpine flowers. Thirty percent of India's bird species and the endangered Rewd Panda are found in Sikkim. Mt. Khancendzonga (8598m) third highest peak in the world stand guardian to Sikkim and its people.

 

This land of intense natural beauty, imbued with a mystic aura, is rich in legends and history. The profusion of lofty peaks, holy lakes, ancient monasteries, flower nurseries, soiling Tea gardens and stunning trekking routes make Sikkim - Darjeeling a perfect holiday destination in the Eastern Himalaya.

Seasons:

 

Sikkim- Darjeeling - Bhutan comes alive with natural floral displays from Mid March to late May, when trekking and touring is at its best. Summer monsoon rains drench the land from early June through September, not ideal for  hiking but alive with festivals. October through December again brings blue skies suitable for trekking and tours with clear mountain views. Winter months are chilly, suitable for day outing.

 

Temperatures: Minimum 5.3 degree C. Max. 28 degree C. (Average)

 

Clothing: Light and Heavy Woolens.

 

Entry Formalities: In addition to valid Indian Visa, foreign nationals require Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit the state of Sikkim.

Inner Line Permit (ILP) for first 15 days can be obtained from all Indian Embassies and Consulate or from Sikkim Tourism offices at New Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri and Rangpo. Separate Protected Area Permit (PAP) id required for trekking and to visit Tsomgo Lake and North Sikkim, which is issued at Gangtok by the Sikkim tourism Authorities.

Visitors are advised to bring atleast some copies of PP size photographs with them.

 

Accessibility: Nearest Airport Bagdogra (IXB) connected by daily  flights linking New Delhi(DEL), Calcutta (CCU) and Guawahati (GUG).

Flights operated by Jet Airways (9W), Indian (IC), Deccan Airways/Kingfisher & Spice Jet.
